Family Ministry School

and "Family" Discipleship Training School dates

This course introduces students to the biblical foundations of marriage and family life. The three-month lecture phase targets five major themes related to effective ministry to families: the biblical model of family; God's design for marriage; godly parenting; Christian family counseling principles; and the role of the family in ministry. Students can anticipate personal development, family growth and skill development throughout the course. Each student is encouraged to integrate the course material into his or her personal and family life as a preparation for effective ministry to other families.

Prerequisites: IDS 701 & 702 or IDS 703 & 704 CHC 257

The three-month field assignment following the lecture phase is structured to help students integrate previous classroom studies with practical service application. Students serve on teams which conduct marriage and parenting seminars, and also help in planning and conducting family camps. They participate in a limited amount of supervised family counseling throughout the program. For students with families, the field assignment affords opportunities for the family to minister together as a team.
